Meet John

John Reiser is an experienced leader and public servant with a passion for giving back to his community. A graduate of Central Michigan University and Michigan State University Detroit College of Law, John has worked in the Southeast Michigan legal community for over two decades, seeking out opportunities to promote justice from within local government.

After over 24 years of seeking justice as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, John continued his public service as a Senior Assistant City Attorney for the City of Ann Arbor.  His passion for local government and experience as a municipal attorney and former Chair of the Ypsilanti Township Planning Commission have served him well as a Scio Township Trustee.

A resident of Scio Township since 2016, John has served in a variety of local leadership roles. He is currently a member of the Scio Township Board of Trustees, serving on the Planning Commission, Land Preservation Committee, and the Parks, Preserves, and Pathways Committee. Additionally, John is a member of the Washtenaw Area Transportation Study where he works with other elected and transportation officials developing plans for roads, transit routes and services, and sidewalks and trails. John is a board member of his neighborhood's homeowner association and spearheaded the efforts to establish a dog park that is used by residents from several nearby neighborhoods.  He is also on the board of the Home of New Vision, a local non-profit dedicated to assisting those dealing with substance use disorders. Prior to moving to Scio, he chaired the Ypsilanti Township Planning Commission.

In addition to his local leadership activities, John is a leader in the State Bar of Michigan and is the chair-elect of the Representative Assembly, the policy-making body for the 46,000+ member organization.  He also serves on the State Bar's Board of Commissioners, which governs and provides oversight over the organization. John is a member of Ann Arbor chapter of the NAACP and the Washtenaw County Democratic Party.

Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his wife, Patricia, and his daughter, Molly. He often can be found playing keyboard with his band The Soul Practitioners, an all-attorney band that raises funds for local charities, including the Purple Run--an annual 5K that raises funds for the SafeHouse Center which supports survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault--and an annual holiday fundraiser which raises funds for the Humane Society of Huron Valley, Food Gatherers, and Toys for Tots. John enjoys time with his family on the many nature trails throughout Scio Township and Washtenaw.
